As my husband and I contemplate whether or not a trip to Disney World is in our reach in 2010, I've been checking out books from the library on traveling to Disney on the cheap. Most of the books I've read don't offer any true money saving techniques or helpful tips for families traveling with children except The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids.
Chock full of tips on reasonably priced hotels, the advantages of staying on and off a Disney owned property and a guide to which rides may or may night frighten your little one, this book is worth a purchase from Amazon.com or your local bookstore.
The book includes "touring plans" for families that give you a step by step guide on which parks to visit first, what time to go and which rides to go on first to avoid long lines. The touring plans may be a little bit too regimented for some but offer helpful tips that can aid a visitor in avoiding an overcrowded park.
The 2011 version of the Unofficial Guide to Traveling with Kids is out in late August.
Helpful Tip: The Unofficial Guides Mini Mickey is a smaller version of the guide that's small enough to fit in your already stuffed diaper bag.
If you really want to save money going to Disney World, I personally recommend staying at a non-Disney property. Disney offers top of the line service but visitors can book a hotel room outside of The World for more than 50% less.
