Finally, a sunscreen I love!

Since I try to feed my daughter a mostly organic and whole food diet, I try and be as vigilant about what goes on her skin as well as in her body. When it comes to shampoo and teeth and gum cleaning products, I haven't had an issue. Sunscreen, however has been a different story. It's been difficult finding a natural sunscreen that doesn't stink to high heaven or coat her with a very unpleasant looking zinc oxide afterglow. Natural sunscreens tend to require more rubbing and longer pre-application time to become effective and frankly, I don't have a lot of extracurricular rubbing time on my hands.

Since titanium dioxide (another popular ingredient used in "natural" suncreens) and zinc oxide don't penetrate the skin as oxybenzone (a common ingredient in most conventional sunscreens), their effectiveness isn't entirely clear. Instead of losing my mind and spending more money on sunscreens that just weren't working for my daughter, I decided to try a product that doesn't market itself as all natural. At the recommendation of my dermatologist, he suggested looking for one that was alcohol free.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked their line of products. They have an entire line of suncare products for little ones with ingredients ranging from zinc oxide to titanium dioxide. I'm also digging their Sunscreen Towelette which is great for reapplication while you're out and about with your little one. Below are our favorites from the Baby Blanket line of suncare products:

* Baby Blanket Faces with SPF 45- This PABA-FREE/Alcohol-Free cream rubbed on my daughter's skin easily with no white afterglow and no stinky smell. Even though it's intended for the face, I also rub it on her arms, legs and bottom of her feet.
* Baby Blanket Convenience Sunscreen Spray Lotion SPF 45+, 2 oz- I love this one. I use it on myself as well. It's small enough to make it past airline security to keep in your carry-on or throw in your everyday diaper bag. It goes on like a light lotion. It's not greasy or smelly and does a good job protecting my daughter from New York's hot summer rays.

You can buy Baby Blanket Suncare products directly from their website, babyblanketsunscare.com. If you decide to purchase Baby Blanket products let me know if they did as good of a job protecting your baby from the sun as it's done for mine.

Helpful Tip: Apply sunscreen products about minutes before you plan on going outside.
